Winter has arrived later than expected, but with the extreme cold the last few days and snow predicted this weekend, it’s finally here. We thought this is a good time to remind you of snow removal responsibilities, and other important information to protect your home this winter.

In terms of snow removal, all streets will be plowed when Generally, 3-4 inches are on the ground.

Current predictions for our area call for snowfall totals from 8-12 inches Friday through Saturday. Under county guidelines,  that snow should be removed within 24-36 hours after the end of the storm. Certainly, our hope and our plan is to have snow removed much quicker than that.

Remember to park in your garage if available or in your parking space. If that’s not an option please coordinate with your neighbors to park on one side of the roadway as opposed to both sides. This will help to allow plows and emergency vehicles to pass.

Additionally, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to shovel sidewalks in front of their home. This is very helpful so that the children don’t have to walk to the bus stop or school in the street. The HOA will clear sidewalks on common area, especially those used by children to get to school. Let’s work together to keep them safe.

Finally, frozen pipes can cause serious damage to your home. Being prepared and informed may help you to avoid the messy and often expensive issue of frozen pipes. The American Red Cross provides information and suggestions around how to prevent water pipes in the home from freezing, and how to thaw them if they do freeze. http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/winter-storm/preventing-thawing-frozen-pipes.
