Turn Your Ideas Into Action
Board service is where concern becomes contribution.
Board service is one of the most direct ways to help shape your community’s future. Directors review financial information, establish priorities, plan for maintenance and long-term projects, uphold the governing documents, and make decisions that affect the homeowner experience.
You do not need to be a property-management expert. You need a willingness to prepare, listen, collaborate, and act in the best interests of the association.

Are You Eligible to Run?
Eligibility requirements vary by association. Your governing documents and official call for nominations control the requirements for your community. In many associations, candidates must be owners and must be in good standing when nominations and elections occur.
Before submitting, review your association’s official notice and confirm that your account and property records meet all stated requirements.
Common Good-Standing Requirements
Important Payment Plan Notice
A payment plan may stop certain collection activity or late fees, but it does not necessarily place an account in good standing for election or voting purposes. If your association requires the account to be paid in full, a remaining balance may affect your eligibility. Review your official election notice and use the Owner Portal to confirm your account status before submitting a nomination.

Tell Your Community Who You Are
How to Write a Strong Candidate Statement
Think of your statement as a brief introduction—not a full résumé. Homeowners want to know who you are, why you are interested in serving, what experience or perspective you bring, and how you hope to help the community.
Introduce Yourself
Share your name, how long you have been part of the community, and a little about your background.
Explain Your Experience
Mention useful professional, volunteer, leadership, financial, operational, or community experience.
Share Your Priorities
Describe the broad areas you care about without making promises that one director cannot fulfill alone.
Sample Candidate Statement Structure
“My name is [Name], and I have been a homeowner in [Community] for [number] years. My background in [experience or skills] has given me experience with [relevant strengths]. I am interested in serving because [reason].”
“If elected, I hope to support thoughtful planning, clear communication, responsible financial decisions, and a positive homeowner experience. I will listen to residents, work collaboratively with the other directors, and approach each decision with the interests of the entire community in mind.”
